The blanks were still made from E-glass, and still featured the Feralite ferrule, but the making of them was moved to China. They also featured Western style grips.

If you hear anything remotely negative sounding about the old Fenwick rods, it is that they seem a trifle heavier. But when they were made, they were very light compared to other rods. Technological advances and new manufacturing materials allowed for newer models to be made that were even lighter than the old Fenwick rods.

Fenwick made the move from their fiberglass rods to graphite in the seventies. This enabled them to produce a rod that was lighter still, and also stronger and had even better control action. This was the birth of their Lunkerstick, which became extremely popular among bass fishermen.
