Killing the Competition with Captivating Headlines

Headlines are used in many ways, but they all serve the same purpose and are important to your goals. However, the question that gets asked again and again is – what exactly makes a good headline and what makes a bad one? Yes, there is a lot that has been written about writing headlines, and that is something you should explore. The answers to these questions could be many, but the message is just one – a headline works only when you make it work. We will cover several parts to this process of writing so you will be on better footing.

Make your headline irresistible. The more tempting you make it, the harder it will be for your audience to resist. Your audience is filled with people who literally give you two seconds to grab their attention or they are moving on. Grab it in a big way! If you aren’t ready to trust your own judgment find someone whose judgment you trust to give you an opinion. Ask them if the headline grabs their attention and makes them want to move ahead with the rest of the content. Learning this important skill will pay off even if it takes a lot of trial and error in the beginning to perfect.

Understand that choosing the right words can make all the difference in the world to your potential audience. Once you understand why you’re writing the content, creating effective headlines becomes much easier. You can craft your content in many ways and to reach many audiences but your headlines need to address the specific audience your content is geared to reach. Sell the headline with a unique approach to whatever it is you’re offering. Use your headline, in other words, to really drive a selling point within the content home. When this is done well it is highly effective for “pre-selling” to your audience. But you must find a way to include this tantalizing tidbit without taking away any of the headline’s punch. You still want your headline to be edgy and attention grabbing but you also want potential customers to know what kind of information they’ll be getting.

You can also be controversial with your headline by saying something that goes against the “prevailing wisdom”. Most people find these types of headlines irresistible.

When you create such a headline, it becomes easy for you to get your reader to read further. But always make sure that the controversy you stir doesn’t threaten your credibility.

Reach out to your prospect in a direct manner, without really making him feel uncomfortable. But make sure you are direct in giving them information and avoid chasing rabbits. Make bold statements that are going to raise some eyebrows. People will respect a direct statement much more than fuzzy logic and chasing rabbits. Start the habit today of writing headlines designed to bring in powerful profits and you’ll be enjoying the benefits before long. You’ll make more money by writing better headlines. It’s that simple. If you haven’t started using these tips already, what on earth are you waiting for?
